i-LIMB |
|
One of these patented technologies is the i-Limb.
For years, researchers have strived to
create a prosthetic device that duplicates
the function of the human hand. Today, that
pursuit has resulted in the i-Limb, the
first commercially available, fully
articulating bionic hand. |
|
 |
The i-Limb Hand is the only upper-limb prosthetic device
that imitates the true movement and accuracy of the
human hand. The i-Limb has five independently powered
digits which give the fingers a lifelike action. The
fingers have the ability to bend at each joint and open
and close around objects. The i-Limb hand is
anatomically correct both when resting and in motion.
Unlike these older devices, the i-Limb has the ability
to articulate the fingers, or wrap around objects, and
rotate the thumb, enabling the hand to create many
different grips. This allows the user to grasp objects
much like a real hand would and perform more complex
daily tasks such as typing, dialing the phone, throwing
a baseball or shaking hands. Advanced Prosthetic
Systems is proud to be one of the first to bring
upper-extremity patients the i-Limb Hand.

RHEO KNEE |
|
Imagine
a prosthetic knee system so smart that it
automatically adapts to an individual's
walking style and environment, learning
continuously and optimizing control over
time. The Rheo Knee is the world's first
microprocessor swing and stance knee system
to utilize the power of artificial
intelligence. Capable of independent
thought, it learns how the user walks,
recognizing and responding immediately to
changes in speed, load and terrain. The
knee adapts to any situation, and not just
within pre-set and limited parameters,
enabling the individual to quickly regain
confidence in his or her ability to walk
where and how they choose. |
|
Performance Benefits:
-
Continuous adaptation - the knee
system's highly developed artificial
intelligence means that it is capable of
thinking for itself. It continuously
recognizes, learns and responds to
individual walking styles and keeps pace
with changes in speed, load and
terrain.
-
Natural and efficient motion - the high
precision actuator technology, which
controls the knee's movements, produces
an exceptionally smooth and fast
response throughout every stage of the
gait cycle. Unlike existing hydraulic
systems, this response offers customized
levels of resistance (knee flexion) as,
and only when, the individual needs it.
That's why walking effort is reduced to
a minimum and motion is much smoother
and more natural.
-
Enhanced security - multiple safeguards
are provided against inadvertent stance
release, IE the knee is less likely to
buckle at crucial moments. Disturbances
in the walking path are recognized
automatically and stance support
instantly activated to protect the
user from a potential stumble and
fall.
-
Simple and convenient - sophisticated
technology that is easy to use, it
doesn't come much better! The
user-friendly 'plug in and play' design
ensures a straightforward set up and
calibration process with the minimum of
fuss. The system is so efficient it only
requires a small battery that lasts up
to 48 hours and that takes only two to
four hours to recharge, at home or on
the road. The battery can be switched
off when not in use.
|
 |
|
State-of-the-art bionic technology instantly
adapts to real-world walking conditions. By
utilizing customized resistance when
resistance is required, the RHEO KNEE
empowers the individual to quickly regain
confidence in his or her ability to walk at
any desired speed and traverse any terrain.
Walk naturally. Walk comfortably. Walk your
way. |

C-LEG |
|
 |
Whether you are casually walking down the
aisle at the store, cycling with friends at
the park, or maybe going hiking in the
mountains, with the c-leg every activity is
possible once again. The world's first
microprocessor-controlled knee joint is
controlled in real time throughout the
entire gait cycle. This means the highest
level of dynamic response with unsurpassed
safety. By now, over 20,000 C-Leg wearers
all over the world are profiting from the
many advantages of proven C-Leg Technology.
The C-Leg adjusts to your requirements in
real time. Walking down stairs, in the
dark, in a crowd while shopping, during a
leisurely Sunday stroll, or in a rush on the
way to work in the morning - the C-Leg
system automatically adapts to any situation
while you walk. The advantages: The risk of
falling is significantly reduced. You no
longer need to focus on every step; you save
energy and can focus on the important things
in life once again. With the C-Leg, you move
safely and smoothly – you'll hardly notice
the difference compared to normal walking,
and neither will anyone else. The
physiological gait pattern simultaneously
provides relief for your entire body. You
can adjust the C-Leg for special activities
such as cross-country skiing or cycling with
a special mode (2nd mode).
A wide range of amputees can make use of the
C-Leg; however, some people are more suited
to this prosthesis than others. The C-Leg
is designed for use on people who have
undergone transfemoral amputation, or
amputation above the knee. The C-Leg can be
used by amputees with either single or
bilateral limb amputations. In the case of
bilateral amputations, the application of
C-Legs must be closely monitored. In some
cases, those who have undergone hip
disarticulation amputations can be
candidates for a C-Leg. Certain physical
requirements must be met before considering
the C-Leg for use. The amputee must have
satisfactory cardiovascular and pulmonary
health. The balance and strength of the
amputee must be sufficient to take strides
while using prosthesis. The C-Leg is
designed to support amputees weighing up to
275 pounds. |

PLIÉ™
MPC KNEE |
|
The new Plié™ MPC Knee is without doubt, the
quickest, most responsive microprocessor
knee available. Given this new level of
nimbleness, no wonder it produces such a
smooth, secure and natural gait—at any
speed, angle or incline. This breakthrough
results from proprietary Accel Control
Technology, which uses advanced hydraulic
engineering and optimized microprocessor
programming to make constant, nearly
instantaneous adjustments in response to
changes in knee position and velocity.
Simply stated, the device measures and
reacts to gait dynamics ten times faster
than the blink of an eye. That’s why it
provides incredibly precise response to
actual gait dynamics as they occur rather
than a step behind. The net result is an
easier, more natural gait, so amputees can
stop concentrating on stability and regain
the freedom to enjoy the world around them.
The Plié MPC Knee engenders greater
confidence in amputees under a wider variety
of conditions-including variable-speed
walking, ascending or descending stairs and
navigating ramps. |
-
Unlike MPC knees that offer just two
stance stability adjustments, the Plié
MPC Knee provides full manual
adjustability that is continuously
variable. This permits users to easily
identify and adjust to the optimum
stiffness for each activity—from
free-swing for bicycling to maximum
resistance for working on an assembly
line.
-
Optimized microprocessor-controlled
stance stability pairs with
next-generation hydraulic swing
characteristics to provide a truly
natural, comfortable gait. This ground
breaking technology measures inputs
1,000 times a second and reacts within
ten milliseconds—ten times faster than
the blink of an eye and the fastest
response time in the industry. This is
not merely the time to sense
(microprocessor or computation time) but
also to act, that is, the actual time
required for the knee to respond to
changing conditions. The result is a
prosthetic knee that requires less
effort from its user, freeing him or her
to enjoy what lies ahead.
-
When it comes to water resistance, no
other MPC knee comes close. Amputees now
can enjoy increased quality of life,
since there is no need to worry about
getting caught in the rain, or splashed
while washing a car or riding in a boat.
Should the knee become wet, all that’s
required is to rinse and air-dry.
-
A removable battery with an independent
charger gives users the option of
alternating a second battery (provided)
while recharging the first. This means
there’s no need to plug the entire knee
into a wall socket and temporarily lose
use of the prosthesis. Plus, the car
adapter that’s included lets users
charge an alternate battery while on the
road.
